Bakers begin work early in the morning, and must be efficient, organised individuals with good time-management skills. The work involves a range of tasks, from preparing and baking various types of bread, cakes and pastries, to decorating and packaging finished products. Day-to-day responsibilities may include mixing and measuring ingredients, operating baking machinery, maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen, and following food safety and quality control procedures. Good time-management skills and attention to detail are essential, as is a passion for creative and delicious baked goods.


Duties:

  • Preparing, mixing, cutting and shaping dough ready for baking.
  • Preparing sweet and savoury pastry and dough fillings, rolling out pastry and creating a variety of baked goods.
  • Monitoring proving, cooking and cooling times, in addition to ensuring the appearance of items is consistent.
